Step 10 When Buying A Home in Phoenix or Scottsdale, Arizona
When you are buying a home in the Phoenix or Scottsdale area and you have completed step 9...Negotiating Repairs, it is time to do step 10!
The 10th step is a two part step.
First begin packing up your things. Moving is a great time to de-clutter and get rid of anything you aren't using. It is a good idea to throw away, give away or sell anything you haven't used since your last move.
With the easy accessibility of www.CraigsList.org and www.eBay.com it is easy to sell items that you own, but are not using. The Salvation Army will come to your home and pick up items if you have pre-arranged a pick up with them.
My suggestion is to start packing as soon as you can. It is always more time consuming than people anticipate.
If you do not want to do your own packing, but would like to hire movers to do everything for you I suggest getting 2-3 quotes. Moving companies are very competitive. I usually pack my own things, but hire someone to load and move my boxes.
The second step is to have the utilities turned off where you are currently living and have them turned on in your new home.
In the Phoenix Valley there are two major electric companies. They are Salt River Project, or SRP and APS their phone numbers are:
-
SRP Customer Service = 602-236-8888
-
APS = 602-250-8766
The major gas company in the Phoenix Valley is Southwest Gas. Their phone number is below:
-
Southwest Gas = 602-861-1999
To have your water, usage, and trash pick up start you will need to call the water department of the city you have moved into. The numbers for Phoenix and Scottsdale are below:
-
The City of Phoenix Department of Water = 602-262-6251
-
The City of Scottsdale Department of Water = 480-312-3111
It usually takes 2-3 business days in the Phoenix area to have any utility turned on or off. Call the appropriate services as soon as you can and have them scheduled to be turned on right before you move in.
